Bangkok International Airport
Bangkok is served by two international airports, Suvarnabhumi International Airport and Don Muang International Airport. Built in 2006, Suvarnabhumi International Airport is the Kingdom’s main international airport and was the most Instagrammed location in the world in 2012 the most photographed areas being the vaulted concourse, along with the intricately designed Buddhist Pagoda.
Most recently, Suvarnabhumi Airport's Midfield Satellite Terminal 1 (SAT-1) was recognized as one of six of the World's Most Beautiful Airports 2024 by Prix Versailles. A UNESCO supported organization, Prix Versailles honors outstanding contemporary architectural projects across various categories, including ecological and cultural impacts. SAT-1 was designed as a natural extension of the existing terminal, in the middle of the site and expands the airport’s passenger-handling capacity from 45 million to 60 million annually with its 251,400 square meters of indoor space and over 260,000 square meters of apron area. The four-story terminal integrates Thai architectural elements, featuring artwork that showcases traditional arts from Thailand's four regions, statues of elephants and mythical creatures, and Buddha statues. Emphasizing environmental sustainability, SAT-1 includes contact gates linked to 28 aircraft parking bays and automatic water-saving toilet systems.
